@Kegi: I'm not even really saying that things as powerful or more then Discord. I'm more saying that given what we have seen in the show they would probably not be much worse in disposition and personality then Discord.

Not really. I mean, mythology is filled with things that have a species name and yet are ostensibly unique, or at least rare.

I just want to point out that a fanfic idea I'm messing around with actually would explain how Equestria is such a Sugar Bowl despite having stuff like Sombra, windigos, and Discord hanging around:

The world used to be a Crapsack world with all sorts of horrible monsters and whatever, until whatever being created it got tired of all the horribleness and decided to make it less awful. They sent the alicorns into the world to show the other creatures (especially ponies) how to use stuff like the Elements of Harmony and the Fires of Friendship to their advantage, and in the long run it resulted in the truly monstrous and abominable creatures being stomped out. By the time the events of the show happen, most of the major threats are gone, but there are still a few things (Sombra, NMM, Discord, Chrysalis, etc.) that haven't been taken care of yet. They're basically remnants of a bygone era that Celestia and Luna are trying to end.

Actually, most times things have a 'species name' but are unique, their species name just tends to be their name. Like, The Whatever. (Also fun fact, Pegasus had a brother named Chrysoar. He was a human, but nothing really special about him aside from being a demigod technically.)

Also, while Discord may be pleasant on the surface it doesn't stop him from being malevolent, and there are a lot of creatures who ''are actively and evidently nasty in the setting.

Quarry Eels are pretty dickish in terms of wildlife.

Fluttershy should get a pet quarry eel.

She loves all animals, right?

@Dalek: Yes, except for adult dragons. She's absolutely terrified of those things.

She should really be over that after Dragonshy. I guess she has one of those irrational fears (dracophobia?), like my explicable terror of slugs and snails.

But where would Fluttershy find a quarry to put one in?

@Ed: Underground perhaps? Perhaps all undesirable refuse goes to said eel to gob.

@Dalek: Didn't realize you feared snails and slugs. Guess I shouldn't invite you to come along to Equestria if offered. I do have irrational dislikes myself, namely dragons (always snobby, evil, etc.), and shotguns (hate how the enemy can hit at a mile away with a death shot, yet I can't hit for snot at pt. blank, missing all pellets).

For those of you who have played Dwarf Fortress, which profession do you think each pony'd fit the best?

They're slimy and they don't have eyes and their insides are chunky and orange and they make a horrible sound when you step on them and everything about them disgusts and terrifies me.

@Apple: Yeah, once I write up more of that story I'll send it to you. It's fairly different from... everything else MLP related I've written.

So, last night I decided to seek treatment for depression, and this morning I found ten dollars. I think it's a sign.

Irish Zombie: I thought of a way Spike ended up like that, but it involves a crossover with The Rescuers Down Under. See, Spike wanted to go waterskiing in Australia (he found out about it while in the Equestria Girls human world) but he thought that because it was founded by convicts, he was supposed to wear a black and white striped stereotypical burglar outfit and stuck a toy iron ball to his leg. While waterskiing, Percival Mc Leach (the villain from the movie I mentioned, he's a poacher) wanted to capture the baby dragon for his collection. Spike fought him off with his fire breath, burning Mc Leach's hat and melting his gun. Mc Leach ran away to go get some other weapons, and dropped his hat, which Spike took for himself because he thought it was cool. Unfortunately, Mc Leach then used a bow and arrow and missed Spike but hit the hat. Spike then had to escape through a version of the portal that was in Australia, but he lost one of his water skis and ended up getting his inner tube stuck over his head. He then put the hat back on and Pinkie found him and he requested that she give him a snow boot for his other foot (the one that didn't have a water ski) because it was winter in Equestria. She thought his mismatched look was funny and added the lipstick mark because she thought it would be a funny face decoration (not from her own lips, but by drawing on his face with lipstick). And then he showed up to meet Twilight looking like he does at the end of the strip.

The main reason I thought of a crossover with The Rescuers Down Under is because I thought that the hat he was wearing looked like Mc Leach's hat.

What would you guys say is the most impressive fan-made work that's come out of the fandom? Something that anybody, whether fan or not, would be able to look at and say "yeah, this is good.

There are a couple of art pieces I've seen that are amazing. Can't remember who the artists were, though. Fighting Is Magic is up there as well; it was easily professional quality before it got shut down.

Maybe one of those plushies or drawings that got onto the Daily Deviations? A few really impressive landscape drawings have come out of the fandom too, although I don't have the links off the top of my head.
