Re: Twilight vs. Harry

I think it really depends on the circumstance. In a straight-up organized duel, Twilight has the advantage of teleportation and being able to cast spells without needing to speak. I'd say it leans in her favor, but Harry has a pretty good chance.

RD Vs. Sonic: I have no idea. Sonic's speed depends on the media, so it's hard to make a comparison. On a straightaway RD could probably keep up, but I don't know whose reaction time would be better.

Rarity Vs. Rouge: Rouge can fly, but that's really the only advantage she has. Rarity could twist her wing with telekinesis or something and then it would be pretty even.

I dunno. I'm pretty sure that Want-It-Need-It spell caused Big Macintosh lasting psychological harm.

Her spells also didn't do much damage.

Let's evaluate this statement. Changelings deliberately fling themselves at high speed into rock hard enough to leave impact craters and are unbothered by this. Twilight's spells knock them out. They also smash through crystal.

As such, her spell would go through Harry leaving a bloody hole.

Plus the only thing that really saves Harry are his one-hit KO spells and smarter friends to help him out. One on one, he might have a fighting chance, but only just. Plus as has been mentioned, Twi's been studying magic her entire life and was a student at the most advanced school in Equestria where only the gifted can join.

Now if it was Twi and Hermione, I'd say that's an even fight.

Harry can teleport too (they call it Apparating) and uses it on a far more regular basis than Twi. Though the books do make it clear he's not very good at it.

[up][up] Depends on how much you think Cartoon Physics has to do with it.

OH COME ON!

That was a clear demontration of power! At this rate, you won't believe anything we're shown, which means that you aren't using evidence to decide a winner. You're sucking your thumb!

Cartoon physics shouldn't even matter, but when you're using it to ignore a blatant example of destructive capacity, it's a ridiculous attempt to justify the ignoring of canon.

How useful is apparating over short distances? Whenever it's used in the books it's a distance spell, so it might not have the precision Twi's teleportation does. Plus I always got the sense that apparating was pretty disorienting, which is definitely a hindrance in a fight.

I wonder: Was there a teacher's strike going on around the time that the third season took place?
I prefer the theory that all of season 3 happened over the course of a single summer.
And, since today is apparently National Jump To Conclusions Day...

Though, I must admit. If we're being picky, technically Harry can cast non-verbally as well. But again, he's not used to it.

However, he also needs a wand. If Twilight knows this, she takes his wand. He's not going to be able to stop her from doing that.

Yeah, if Twilight gets his wand, it's all over. Of course, Negi could kick both their asses.

Stupid visual media. I've heard nothing but incredibly awesome stuff from that Manga.

Superman is actually weak against magic, so no Kryptonite necessary.

The anime is in no way a good representation of Negi.

Well, there's your problem.

(The anime are no where near as good as the manga.)

As for Negi vs. Superman, he can only take out the slower versions of Superman. Negi may be thousands of times faster than sound, but the faster versions of Superman are quadrillions of times fater than light. So, no time for a spell.

EDIT:

The anime is in no way a good representation of Negi.

This.

Well, there was an AMV or two that was a faithful adaptation of part of the manga. But the actual shows kind of... diverged a bit.

[up]If Supe's weakness to magic works the way I think it does, then considering how much magic Negi puts into his punches, he'd only need to get one or two hits in. And for someone who can move faster than light, Superman still gets hit a lot.

Of course, I can also see Supes winning a fight. I just figure Negi ~= Captain Marvel, and consider it a close match.

In the elseworlds story Superman: Red Son, Supes gets imprisoned by the entire Green Lantern Corps... for a few seconds. He escapes because he can move "faster than thought".

@CDRW: To put it lightly, the anime sucks compare to the original. The manga started as an Unwanted Harem comedy, but after the first few volumes shifted into a very well written fantasy epic. Unfortunately, the anime ends right at the point where the manga starts getting good. There are others but the other anime is an Alternate Continuity that has little to do with the manga, and the OV As are good, but set so far back in the chronology that they won't make any sense unless you've read the manga anyway.

So yeah, I recommend reading it over watching it, with the caveats that

1. It has a lot of Fanservice, especially early on

2. Executive Meddling resulted in the series' ending being rather truncated.

@Sereg: Negi can move as fast as lightning, so if Superman isn't expecting it, Negi could get a few shots in before Supes figures out what's going on. The problem with the comparison is that Superman has so many continuities with different powers its hard to develop a consistent reference for him.
