One thing I thought of was researching the setting well enough to run a tabletop RPG in it, then I'd be sick of it. Of course that would require playing with bronies, and I won't lie, I have some prejudice against them.
I could just force myself to watch more episodes and skip over the songs, which seem to be the main source of my pain. At least the adventure episodes.
I might actually be resisting the fandom more than the franchise, what with its endless fan-wanking (and literal wanking) over background ponies who have little to no canon behind them. I don't care about Time Turner! He doesn't even look like David Tennant! His eyes are a different color and his hair spikes the other way! I don't WANT to care!

@ikeepcrawlingback: Dude, you can watch the show and not be a brony or be creepy. I do not do any of those things you mentioned, I do not own any merchandise. I primarily sit on the periphery of the show. The only real interaction I have with the fandom was with the people in this thread. I don't get in endless debate over "which Pony is best" or any of that. You might also try to be a little less inflammatory by not painting a specific group in such broad strokes. I'm not personally offended, but there are a few people who are a bit more impassioned on the subject. In any case, you're free not to enjoy the show, so I'm not going to hassle you over that.

I didn't decide she was mentally challenged. I decided she's secretly one of the smartest characters on the show, and the only one who can see other dimensions.

Very very few are what you seem to be thinking, I say just suck it up, stop worrying about what is "supposed" to be watched by what audience and watch a few, almost none of them are "sugary" in the negative connotation you imply. But it's all down to you own personal interest, you don't like it don't watch it.
