Well yeah, if he had been well written then his presence in the movie wouldn't have been a problem. But he wasn't well written, I don't think anyone is really arguing that, and it isn't my job to make excuses for boring characters. I don't really like him, and I'd rather he not be in the movie. That's the writers fault for making him boring, not mine for not thinking of ways he could have been interesting.

Well, I don't think I said that the burden of making him an interesting character was on us (Sorry if I wasn't clear on that). The writers still bear that responsibility.

Exactly my point. They should have done better. That's their responsibility.

The bold word is the problem here. He isn't significant. You could literally cut him out of the movie and lose almost nothing. He does one plot relevant thing, and that isn't in any way specific to his character. Sunset Shimmer, while flat, is at least integral to the plot; you couln't have the movie without her. Flash... he doesn't contribute anything. He doesn't influence the plot in any meaningful way, and he isn't interesting enough to justify his presence. If a writer is going to include a character, they need to have a reason for them to be there, and Flash doesn't have one.

I get the feeling that Kyler meant only other original character.

I feel like we're all arguing the same thing at this point (that Flash feels pointless because the writers didn't do enough with him), so let's talk about that train thing.

How do you kill a zombie train?

Um, how? He said "the only new character besides the main antagonist" and Sunset is the main antagonist. Which leaves Flash.
