Then what's the point? I mean, power levels at that stage are just silly.

The only way I could see Celestia winning against Superman is either through magic attacks (which even with Supe's weakness to the stuff, will take some doing) or if she 1) figures out his connection to the Sun and 2) uses her sun powers to make it red.

Other than that, the only way I see her avoiding a humiliating defeat is if they just don't fight (and why would they? The Big Blue Boy Scout doesn't just go picking fights, and she's pretty much the Big Good of her world. If anything, they'd get along quite nicely.)

Power Levels in general rarely function like they're supposed to. There's too much that relies on ability and circumstance for them to ever really mean much.

Isn't Superman at least one Super Weight above Celestia?

I need to join this conversation to get my mind straight.

I don't think I could ever see Tia and Supes fighting. They would probably be allies right of the bat.

Celestia would do a fusion dance with Pinkie, becoming Pinklestia and completely unbeatable. tongue

I dunno. Maybe they'd have a little play fight in the depths of space when Celestia offers Supes a nice cup of tea and he becomes terribly offended because he's an american goddamnit, and not some filthy tea-drinking brit.

Happily, Superman is not in fact terribly patriotic. This is completely unrelated but it actually severely bothers me that all the superheroes we see are american but seem to have global adventures despite. I would be supremely uncomfortable with an american hero coming to Canada just to mop up a few problems. It's roughly analogous to the US police hopping the border to apprehend a Canadian criminal without being asked. Which is also why I object to America's sheer military size: I don't think that any one country should be allowed to police the world, or have the power to. But that's very much aside the point.

Can Superman take the sun dropping on him?

@Roy: Not sure. We've never really seen what Celestia can do beyond moving the Sun (well, we've seen her get beaten down by Chrysalis, but that doesn't really help since that only established their relative levels of power). She could be below him, even with him, or even above him in terms of what she can do, but since we see so little of her at work, it's purely up to Fan Wank how powerful she really is.

@Bad: He can immerse himself in the Sun to power himself up. So, yes.

@keg: Since most superheroes aren't directly affiliated with the American government, I just think of them as free agents. I know that if a comic book supervillain were terrorizing my hometown, I wouldn't care if the hero to put him away was American, Mexican, English, Canadian or Martian, so long as I know they're on my side. I also have similar feelings about the sheer size of our military, but yeah, that's beside the point.

@Bad: Well, if it's a yellow sun I'd think that would only make him stronger. I mean he still has to contend with all that heat and plasma, but he's basically sitting on a massive fuel source. Given his power level when he's eight light-minutes away from it, through layers of ozone and other chemical bullshit...

[up]I can understand that to a degree. I think there's also kind of a cultural knee-jerk in my case, since it's american heroes specifically. If it were like, turkish heroes I probably wouldn't have as much of a problem, but since America has such an overwhelming cultural presence in Canada it's easy for me, and many Canadians, to get a tad defensive about what's seen as 'encroaching' into Canada. Intellectually I understand that yeah, they're just operating out of altruism - or self-grandurizingness-ess, at least. Not any real political motivations.

Even Crys taking her out doesn't say much, since we don't know she was trying as hard as she could, or possibly holding back and using the smallest amount of power she thought was needed to prevent ponies getting caught in the collateral damage.

@keg: I can understand that. Of course, since Supes renounced his American citizenship at one point, you won't have to worry so much if he shows up in your neck of the woods.tongue

Oh, did he? Well that's quite nice then. I knew he wasn't exactly patriotic and was more generally humanist, but I didn't know he'd gone quite that far.

Then again, "Superman"'s house is in Antarctica, so I suppose that shouldn't be surprising.

Superman's not really American anyway. He was born on a different planet, and if you're not eligible to run for President, you're not a true American.

It's not a good Father's Day movie, apparently. We gave my dad a superhero themed day, and my brother took him to see it. But a good movie otherwise, from what I hear. [lol]

What I've heard is mostly "The fight scenes are good, but the story is kinda meh and they just don't get Superman". Which is understandable is it's the same director as The Dark Knight from what I understand, and Batman and Superman are very nearly diametrically opposite in many ways.

Well...I'd give a seven. It's not awesome but it is a good movie.
