@JT - And it is an excellent point that you made.
On the other hand, there are few cases where BP winners are actually very entertaining.
Sound Of Music was delightful, Casablance (I
think it won BP) was exciting,
Ben Hur (this one
total eleven Oscars, can you believe that?), was made of awesome,
The Godfather and its sequel was simply badass, and of course, there is Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (this one also one eleven Oscars).
Recently I am on a "Classic" movie binge. To be honest? I mostly watch movies that I keep hearing about. I don't watch a movie just because it got BP, because frankly, some BP winnners are quite baffling, but if a movie that I already keep hearing about and know to be a good movie,
and it got a BP, it's just a bonus.
Also, personally I find Best Original/Adapted Screenplay to be a more important award. Titanic and
Good Will Hunting were both released in the same year, but the latter is the one that got Oscar for writing. No points for guessing which I liked better.
Oh, and the latter also had Matt Freaking Damon, my favorite actor of all time,
period.
By the way, since
Schindler's List was brought up, let me quietly rant a little bit.
I didn't like it.
I don't care if it was based on a noble real life act, it had an unbearable pacing. Also, I am not trying to be insenstive to anyone with Jewish descent, but you know how I felt?
The Movie: What Nazis did to Jews during Holocaust was horrific.
Me: No,
really?
Maybe it is a case of
Seinfeld Is Unfunny, but I already heard more about Holocaust than I ever want (I even visited the Holocaust Memorial in Washington D.C
twice.) so there wasn't anything that surprised me one bit. Besides, everyone knows that
the girl in the red dress dies anyway.
And thus concludes my rant and my thoughts about movies for the day.
I will see you all in the evening.
dRoy signing off.
