Perhaps Cutie Marks don't actually appear if your actively trying to get them? The universe pulls reverse psychology on everypony in other words. You don't get a Mark if you think about it, and do when you don't.

Well I think that's partially true, but for indirect reasons. They are or were so focused on getting their CM that they didn't realize what their talents actually were.

I've thought about that, but it stands to reason the CMC would have found their talents by now. Disregarding for a minute that they're trying to jumpstart something they need to find naturally, with all the different activities and implied other adventures going on over a period of what most be a few years by now, they would have stumbled onto them. Besides, how old would they be now? 12, 13? Sounds like it's really pushing it, even for them.

The thing is that they seem to have pretty much given up on crusading and now just hang out together as friends. I wonder why they haven't figured it out yet.

And Diamond and Silver will start showing signs of being nice to the Crusaders.
