I think Sweetie Drops was already on one of her toys?

I incorporated that bit into my fanfic: Bon Bon is just a nickname, but she hates the name Sweetie Drops for some reason, and gets annoyed when others call her that. It better fit the tone of canon than my original plan: ponies annoying her by calling her Sweet Flanks.

Given that what little canon characterization we have of her shows her as a kind of stuck up, it fits perfectly that she wouldn't like that name.

Also, that line about Soarin' eating Applejack's pies is going to be taken out of context.

Yeah. My thoughts on Word Of God vs Death of the Author is that the author's word can add to the text or aid the interpretation, but if the author outright contradicts the text then I'm not going to listen to them.

I can accept that Octavia plays a double bass instead of a cello. I can't accept that Bon Bon's cutie mark is bows.
