well, I have a changeling OC for my fic, but he is in no way supposed to represent me, so i dunno if that really counts.

Now that you mention it Bliss... I did actually have a couple OCs. (One changeling, and one unicorn. Thank/curse my dreams for the creation of the two. {Manny Quin happens to be the unicorn}.)

In case of fanfics I have tons of OC ideas. But some kind of online persona pony, not so much.
Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.

Apple: Yep.

I've created a bunch, but the one with the most work put into her is my avatar. She started out as something of a ponysona, but evolved into her own character, so I've taken to calling her my spokesmare. tongue

Don't be silly Applelight! -hug- I would say if you outcast the actual show, then you overdid it.

one can never have too many characters. a personal project i'm working on has well over 30 characters so far.

Hi everyone, what's today's topic?
Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead.

Talking about O Cs apparently.

And this reminds me that I need to get back on working on my original stuff.

Oh, that? I participate in an RP, so I have a few.

Enough to know spotlight balance can be a big annoyance.

what's the hardest part about creating a character for you guys? for me, it's names. i can whip up an awesome design in minutes, but be stuck on a name for days.

Names are very hard. And in this setting, decent C Ms too.

I tried to be part of Pony RP forum but I get stopped going on that site after few weeks (stopped going there because of unrelated to pony reasons I wasn't in mood, but later I could go back because that setting wasn't much fun).

So now only pony OC are for future (lets have hope) fanfics.

Or names are pain for me too. So far I can only come up with names what are shoutouts or homages for something.

Names are probably the hardest part, cutiemarks come up when my character's already up and running, do that, though hard, can be delayed a little.

The rest usually builds itself through interaction with other characters.

@Apple: i've only just know settled on a cutie mark for my pony OC. he's an artist like me, so it's a white mechanical pencil in front of a piece of paper.

You just reminded me, I still don't have a cutiemark for one of them. Guh.

@Crimson: In general, I find giving them a distinct voice to be the hardest part.

It depends on what sort of character I'm making. When I made a scientist character, her cutie mark was the hardest part because she had a very particular field - Ethology, or the study of animal behaviour. For her rival, I had trouble coming up with a name that sounded right. I had trouble coming up with a decent 'kingly' design that communicated both genuine regal intent and a vague sense of xenophobic callousness(Which is part image and part body language).

[up]Also ture, especially for ponies who sepnd a moderate, but not huge amount of time in the spotlight. They don't have time for real development, but making them flat is really inexcusable. So you need to make them distinct without overblowing it, since you don't have room for much subtlty.

I find pony names a lot harder to come up with than reallife names. Partly because there's too big a temptation to just use a literal name even if it sounds stupid, and then you start second guessing yourself. And there's a lot fewer names to choose from.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
Japanese Teeth avatar
#365773 from Meinong's jungle
[up][up]One of the most difficult bits of my current story is writing Lyra and Bon Bon; I want them to be distinct enough that they don't feel like generic BP characters who are just there for the sake of being there, but I don't want to go too far and make them overbearing.

Though it does open up the possibilities for theme naming if you're gonna use a family of ponies. And, depending on your world headcanon, other languages could work if the pony's "foreign".

Not to mention coming up with a pun if you can. The best names either have two or more meanings that reveals a part of their personality, or provides a bit of humour.
