What would Pinkie teach? Maybe baking techniques.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
you're stronger than you think you are.
@Enlong: I think one of the current storyboarders (Sibsy, maybe?) confirmed that they were deceased.
And that's why Applejack is batmare.
i wonder if Applejack still has her version of the Mare Do Well costume...

the formatting's shot. it has something to do with the maintenance. you don't have any problems on your end?
The formatting's messed up for me, but images still show up fine.

I recall those Twitter messages around the time of the episode, ad it really struck me as a "wink wink" thing. They never said it in as many words, and really only pointed out the detail itself. So I feel free to interpret it however.
I was surprised to come here and find people thinking the shooting stars were significant in the first place.

The formatting is indeed shot to hell. I can't edit anything, and none of the smiley icons seem to work.
Oh, sure, the scene with the shooting stars can be interpreted in that way if you're alredy partial to the theory and want it to be hint, but it's not like it was outright stated. Even the Tumblr poss only go so far as going "nudge nudge" and letting fans' minds run wild.
That 'hint' is as blatant as they could get without explicitly stating it in-show.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
It's just a freaking shooting star.
But everyone else seems to have latched onto it being significant right away, so maybe I'm just the weird one who doesn't think it means that (or means anything)

It's not just a shooting star. The fact that there are two of them and they appear right after they say something about the whole family being there makes it pretty clear that it's not coincidence. And then they appear again at the end of the episode.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
I'll agree that that's one valid way to interpret it.

watching enough Disney movies gives you the ability to pick up on symbolism like this.
you're stronger than you think you are.
so what do you guys think killed Applejack's parents? i'm going with "they died defending toddler Applejack from a timberwolf attack."
you're stronger than you think you are.
@Enlong: Law of Conservation of Detail. We've never seen shooting stars in episodes before (at least, not that weren't the focus, like that scene in 'Owl's Well'), the stars were paired, and they showed up during a soulful glance out the window after a mention of a family reunion.
I'm 8ad, and that's good. I will never 8e good, and that's not 8ad. 8ecause there's no one I'd rather 8e... than me.
I wonder if it would be more or less depressing to think that they abandoned hem rather than being dead.
I have a message from another time...
... i'm sure it's more depressing to think that Applejack was abandoned.
you're stronger than you think you are.
They died when a couple of meteorites fell from the sky and clonked them on the head. And now whenever Applejack sees a shooting star, she's reminded of her parents.
Actually, since Apple Bloom is the youngest, it would have to have been shortly after she was born.
...Hm... Okay, yeah, them being dead is the
more comforting possibility.
Unless it's one of those "left, but for a damn good reason" things, like with
Hohenheim.
I have a message from another time...
@Irish: ... it's official. until proven otherwise, the timberwolf thing is my headcanon. though Applejack might have been a bit older than i had initally planned. Applebloom had to come from somewhere.
you're stronger than you think you are.
Maybe they'll come to the reunion this year.
*twinkle*
Sigh... Ah told myself I'd stop waitin' on them. They'd've come 'round years ago if they were ever gonna.
I have a message from another time...
Well, how old would you say Applebloom is? In human years I'd guess eleven-13.
