Would adjusting his ears work? I don't want him to look like an actual dog. That would put him in 'freak' territory. I just want him to vaguely look dog..ish.

You could try adjusting the ears, and maybe put some bulldog's wrinkles in his snout.

No, I get what you're saying. You want to give a sort of 'implication' of dogness, without making him actually look like a dog. I was reading an art book once... hmm...

Well, I can't find any examples, sadly, but I once came across an artbook that had an example of a barbarian hunter who was designed to give the feeling of a wolf. He was very gaunt and sharp, and had furs across his shoulders to suggest hackles, had a longish face, that sort of thing. So I do know what you're getting at.

IT's a shame he's young, or you could give him jowls - that'd help. But my suggestion is aim for slightly stubbier and thicker legs(Bowleggedness optional) and a bit of a shorter muzzle, with a nice big nose. That, I think, would suggest dog without making him actually doggish.

Or alternatively, try some of that instead. What about a 'stance' then? Like, he stands with his front legs turned inwards?

If you're going for a bulldog look, you could shorten the legs and make the body more stocky (wide, not necessarily muscular.)

Trying something tricky here...drawing a pony with a shaved head. It has to be tried at least.

Bulldog pony could also be not very good at running because of his short legs.

That's easy just use that cancer patient in Read and Weep as an example

Just make the area offcolor from the rest of the head and draw little bits of stubble for emphasis

Some of the manes on the show look like they're growing out from a long, narrow base. Like if you gave them a close crop, they'd have a mohawk. Rainbow Dash is one example of what I'm talking about. When we see the back of her head, It looks like the hair is growing out of one narrow area.

How does that shaved head look? Does it make a pony look too old? Shaved heads are very common in the UK, so I feel at least one crew mate should have one. Tails though are tricky on such a pony.
