The what? No, Avatar the Last Air Bender was always an animated series, and in fact had no adaptations, live action or otherwise.

It's not creepy, just a ragged, beat up, doll. For instance the eyes are just buttons and one of them is hanging off by a thread. And the hair looks like yarn of some kind.

I think it's more that Smarty is a well-loved toy and since the CMC don't share the same past with her that Twi does, they don't see the value in her. All they see is a decrepit old toy.

As for thinking Smarty is male, maybe it's the larger muzzle messing with you?

Smarty Pants is a donkey, not a pony. And while decrepid, she's cute. I've seen a comic where she is real and Twilight is her toy. It was adorable.
