LENGTHY JUSTIFICATION FOR WHY HUMANS CAN FIND THESE PONIES ATTRACTIVE AHOY! Not sure how good it is, but it seems decent to me.
The ponies faces are animated just like animated humans, just with a different hue, and combined with the fact the manes are deliberately styled like hair means that you can look into their faces and it reminds you of a human, especially since there's no other real animated difference between their faces and animated humans. If their snouts were more prounoucned, THEN I wouldn't be able to justify it at all; look at, say, Gen 1: THAT you can obviously tell is a horse. However, it's animated in a style that like I said deliberately takes after human faces. Their bodies don't even look all that horse like besides having 4 legs and no hands; different enough that no one will be psychologically tricked into thinking they resemble humans, but enough that mentally a lot of times our minds don't make the connection that they are animals.........Actually, they CAN look human like body-wise as well, if in the right conditions and drawn right.
So to sum it all up, the way they are drawn doesn't look human, but at the same time they look so different from real-life ponies that they fail to make us squick at the thought of thinking they are sexy, leaving them in a state where our minds are free to mold them without feeling overly creeped out unless we specifically make them seem more animal-like in our heads.
We probably won't find them attractive when they are, say, walking around, but if they are put into a pose or make a look like the famous Rainity pic a few pages back, then our minds are reminded of humans in these ponies which rebounds to us suddenly finding said pony attractive because we would find this sexy in a human, and there's not enough 'these are ponies, not people!' imagery in their forms to completely turn that sensation away. Weaken it certainly, but not enough to completely override it.
Laconic: They are ponies but they have enough human qualities to confuse even non-furry people when in the right situation.
Did that sum it up reasonably?

-Mr. Nomura, are you trolling your fanbase?
Nomura: Maybe. That is a plot point and I want fans to speculate. *laughs.*
