@Cookoo: My fanon is that the Pegasi had a very Greek/Spartan-style military culture that is still prevalent in their sports values and their competitiveness, while the Unicorns went more for an aristocratic feudal structure with nobility and a very officer-oriented fighting force. Earth Ponies adopted a lot of militia/guerilla tactics and relied a lot more on informal/assymetric warfare, and were the first to adopt Gunpowder and a variety of weapons to make up for their lack of fancy powers.
