@storyyeller: Because in the universe where they're humans, instead of looking for their cutie marks (which people don't have), they're fans of riding horses, thus the pony shapes on the capes. (I just made that up as a reason as to why a human CMC would have ponies on their capes)

So.. I thought of something. Equestrian ponies are predatory in some fashion because they have forward facing eyes.

"Prey generally have eyes on the sides of their head so to have a larger field of view, from which to avoid predators. Predators, however, have eyes in front of their head in order to have better depth perception.[30][31]"

I don't know why I thought of this.. its really random.
