@Syd: Is it wrong that I want them to as well, almost more to put an end to the mopey sadfic than to make Scoots happy? I mean, even if she is an orphan, she's doing just fine, and she obviously has a foster family at least.

Yay, tokenism?

I actually was just recently having a talk with a disabled friend of mine about this, and she made a good point. The instant a character becomes the author's Deep Opinions on disability wearing a character as a mask, or they become the Magical Sainted Disabled Person or, alternately, isn't shown to realistically struggle with his or her condition, it's insulting.

I don't think that will happen on the show, obviously, but I do wonder how a half-hour children's program will handle the issue with any sort of depth.

As said before, Scoots seems perfectly happy. So if she is revealed to have a disability, I doubt the writers would do a hollow Inspirationally Disadvantaged thing. Or at least I hope they wouldn't.

Scoots is already happy, in my opinion. She has great friends and Rainbow Dash as a surrogate big sister. It's only the fandom that treats her like the universe's punching bag.
