I meant the fact that non-magical technology is all but non-existant in Equestria, so if some pony were to invent Steam Punk tech, and then immediatley use it for villainy...

well, let's just say I cant see the mane cast responding too well to such hardware

That's what I'm on about... Steam Punk would be the first magikless tech in Equestria.

I can't imagine its first appearance going over very well

Maybe that could be it: An EP scientist invents Steam Punk, ponies ridicule his inventions, then he tries to prove himself by constructing something really big

Then it goes runnning amok with him trapped inside

I'd prefer that idea if it didn't have the earth pony be the villain. The unicorns could be derisive because it doesn't use magic, and the earth pony has to prove that their invention works just as well.

I remains skeptical of the motives of anypony who responds to ridicule by building a giant robot. That is not the action of somepony who isn't already a super villain.

...it's just that they're all awesome yet impractical. And dangerous.

Like a machine that thumps the ground in aid of apple bucking, which unfortunately destroys buildings as well.
