That reminds me of how Poseidon can get speed bonuses to the starting scout in Ao M. But you only get one and it dies pretty easily. I think the bonuses also apply to other calvary though.

Some legends say he created horses. He's quite associated with them, either way; in addition to "God of the sea" and "the earth-shaker", he is also known as the "tamer of horses".

How are those two things even related?

I don't know about this specific case, but the Greek gods usually arose out of combining multiple local similar local gods. So they tended to end up with different and contradictory stories.
