Gay used to mean happy.

In the 20's "blackfaces" were not racist.

Etc etc yadda yadda. Values Dissonance, Have a Gay Old Time and other such tropes.

I have nothing against the color itself.

But oversaturation of it puts me off.

We are already watching a cartoon filled with candy color coated ponies with names like ice cream flavors. We don't need Hasbro to puke more pink over it to try and "girlify" it some more. Girls like other colors too!

Well when you consider that pretty much all of the colours are pastels to begin with, it's not as if they can really do much to make it worse.

About that picture of pink Luna, I'd wonder what Rarity did to manage changing her entire body color, outside of having Luna take a bath in pink fur dye. grin

I'm a fan of this show too, mainly thanks to reading the descriptions on this site. At first I wasn't sure I liked the idea of the Moon princess being the evil one when I first read about the pilot, and that Twilight was told to find friends instead of study, but Applebuck Season (the first story I watched) got me to like this addition to the My Little Pony series, mainly because I thought it was so funny. It also helps that Twilight being smart is still one of her positive traits and is still a part of her character later on in the series, and that Luna wasn't really evil in the first place (or at least stopped being evil in the end).

Probably my favorites are Twilight and Pinkie Pie (ironically, since they're opposites), but I like all the "Mane Cast" and saying those two are my favorites is only by a small margin.

I'm not saying the pastel colors are bad. It's actually kinda pleasing to the eye in it's own way.

But if Hasbro decides to invade the animation temas workspace and demand "PINK! PINKNESS EVERYWHERE! GIRLS LOVE PINK AND ONLY PINK!" That'd be bad.

Eh, I don't think the show is all that saturated. Of all the main six and the princesses, there's only Pinkie Pie and maybe Fluttershy who have a lot of pink. Twi's streak is a small percentage of her, Rarity, AJ, Dashie and Luna all lack the colour entirely. Aside from her mane, Celestia's coat is such a light pink that it might as well be white. And I think of most used background ponies, there's only one or two that use a lot of pink. Sure, Ponyville buildings have quite a bit of pink, but there's plenty of other colours involved too.

Also, what's wrong with names that could be ice cream flavours? tongue

I think some people took my post wrong...

The colors and names as they are now are just fine.

But someone mentioned that Hasbro has an obsession of making everything pink. I dread for this nice show if it would degrade to being 90% pink.

[up][up] Nothing! I like Edible Theme Naming, and I'd probably credit My Little Pony in general for my current love of characters with weird names like that. But that's just me and my high tolerance for things most people think Tastes Like Diabetes.

EDIT: Forget the arrows, there's such a gap betweenw when I wrote this and when I posted it I don't know who I was talking to anymore. Probably ginger.

Just read fanfics of works you've never seen the originals of. Many people who read Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality haven't read the original, and the author himself never got past book 3... because at the time he read a lot of good fics and his brain simply refused to assimilate the really different ways the actual story played out. He relies on wikis and such. So far, it only bit him in the ass once, when he was under the impression that Snape had dated Lily at some point.

Which is something that never happened.

Because Snape is a Dark Arts nerd, as well as a creep:

Kuro Fox: Oh. Well, if you're referring to my post, I was just poking friendly fun at Hasbro. They've been pretty good about things like that lately, though. If interviews with the animation crew are any indication, Hasbro's pretty good about trusting them to do what they do best.

[up][up][up]Nono, I was talking about gigner's relcuatance to read fics because of how they taint his perceptions of the original. My advice is to ditch the original altogether and read fics that can stand by themselves.

I gotta ask, someone is changing all the mentions of "Blind Bags" to "Surprise Bags". What's the source on this? They're always called Blind Bags on Equestria Daily and My Little Pony News. Are they actually called "Surprise Bags" on the bags themselves or what?

I know its a pointless issue, but its bugging me. I've only ever seen the Blind Bag toys referred to as, well, Blind bag.

In other news, I just realized how badass sounding Gilda's Theme is.

I actually have some TvTropes related stuff to discuss. On the Autobots, Rock Out! page there is a Pony entry that lists "Rainbo Dash's Leitmotif" as an example. Is there a video with this specific muscial theme that I can use to lonk too? I've looked, but since youtube is so flooded with Pony content I can't tell what's what or where it came from.

It was probably deemed to be offensive to blind people.

Either that or Pinkie got a hold of her own development notes and wanted a reference to her past life.

[up][up][up][up][up][up] That ain't the problem I have with fanfiction (although it can be)

I can read bad fanfiction, what I can't read is GOOD fanfiction

It makes me feel like a bad FAN. Why can't I produce something as good as these guys can? What's MY excuse? It makes me depressed and unable to focus on the content of the fic.

That, AND I'm not a prose reader. I read comics, manga, that sort of thing. My imagination isn't good enough to adequately depict stuff.

How are the mane cast names like ice cream flavors? The only one I can picture as being a flavor is Applejack.

Your excuse should be that all fan fiction is an insult to the original, so to you there is no such thing as good fan fiction.

Maybe slushie flavours. There was a crushed Smurf flavour here after all.

I'm the one who changed "Blind Bag" to "Surprise Bag"—I don't know if either name is official, but "Surprise Bag" is more likely to be an official name (since it's more politically correct than "Blind Bag").
