Whenever I use it (or have seen it used, for that matter), it's usually in the sense of "Oops, I screwed it up, derp derp." Sort of like how "durr" gets used.

Yes, but they still shouldn't use it or encourage using it. It's nice they want to shout out to the bronies, but they have the young audience to keep in mind. Naming a filename is pretty harmless, and the word may not be well known now, but it's the kind of thing that is best to nip at the bud. Bronies are probably going to hate me and call me bitch for this.

I'm indifferent to the term myself, but if it upsets some folks, it's probably best to avoid it.

I didn't know the word "derpy" before this show, so to me it's "that one pony's name" and that's it. And I am a native English speaker.

As for Angel, I do like him. In fact, I've been seriously thinking of having him as an avatar.

By the way, these filenames are all Dummied Out—you have to know how The Hub's website stores its game files in order to find them and see their names.

I have to agree with JTeeth - I associate it with a momentary lapse in intelligence, not with being actually mentally impaired. I do realize that that's where the term came from, though, and recently enough that even if it's okay to use on the 'net among adult fans, it'll never be (and should never be) used by Hasbro.

Whatever. We need to find something else to talk about.

I'm probably just being paranoid. I just want to kind of stop it before it starts. Maybe my energy would be better spent trying to address We Love Fine. As it is, this is probably the silliest letter I ever wrote.

Nah, I just read a Ponibooru comment explaining how some of Adventures in Ponyville's files are stored, then applied that knowledge to the other games (with the help of Google, which surprisingly includes some older Dummied Out pages in its search results).

I kinda feel the same way. I personally wouldn't like it if they used "Derpy Hooves" as her official name. Ditzy Doo is an already established name and most of the fanon stuff I've seen/read uses "Ditzy Doo" now anyways.

Also, let us consider this... do you think Hasbro would really sell a little girls toy named "Derpy Hooves"? Its just not a marketable name. Even if they "market" it to adults, its still a My Little Pony character and is gonna have that association. The We Love Fine shirts probably get away with it because they're not Hasbro and they're just licensing the brand.

Speaking of which, we're apparently getting a Lyra blind bag toy... it'll be interesting to see if they really do use a Fan Nickname for a toy. What other name could they use for her?

Yeah, regardless of what they call her around the studio, it's doubtful they'd ever use Derpy on the show or the official merch.

That's really cool that some of the background ponies are getting in on the official toy love. And Big Mac! I might have to actually start spending all this money I don't have.

Think of it like Super Smash Bros.. Its odd to see Kirby beating the crap out of Solid Snake at first, but then you realize it distilled awesome in interactive video game form.
