I thought the Hanged Man was about acceptance, passivity, and letting what will happen happen.

I think its about looking at things from a new perspective actually, which could fit Pinkie quite well.

It's also about sacrifice. But not necessarily a major sacrifice, the sort of minor everyday sacrifice, like if I choose to eat the peperoni pizza, I sacrifice my chance to have the sausage. This could fit in pretty well with Too Many Pinkie Pies, with her giving up a chance to hang out with RD to be with Applejack.

Well according to the Persona 4 wiki... which is admittedly a bad source probably but it's where I learned about the tarot symbols from, "the Hanged Man Arcana is associated with self-sacrifice for the sake of enlightenment, the bindings that makes one free, paradoxes and hanging between heaven and earth".

Yes... that could work.

I wonder what would fit Justice.

Temperance, I was actually thinking of the Heart of Fire, from Hearth's Warming Eve. Either the blaze itself, or the ponies gathering together just before it appears. It nicely goes with the "unification of opposites" part of it.

[up] Well, yes. There certainly is a strong association with sacrifice for enlightenment in it. There's a good reason why it is often described as finding a new perspective. However, a lot of the time, I've seen it described as sort of letting go and letting things happen. A sort of confidence that things will turn out right. The hanged man looks like a martyr at first glance, but the imagery shows us that he is there of is own choice.

I do beleive the Hanged Man is about sacrifice and enlightenment. It some senses it's considered the opposite of the fool.

The only thing I know about Tarrot is that you don't have to know it. The only skill required to read people's fortunes is BS. Making up meanings for the symbols on the spot is perfectly fine.

Yeah, a bit more digging shows the most consistent meaning is sacrificing to gain enlightenment(Apparently based off of Odin, who hung himself from a tree for nine days to attain great enlightenment.

In that meaning Starswirl might fit it well - he pursued knowledge, but it was obvious it was at the sake of personal relationships.

Sacrifice, enlightenment, a new perspective, but also acceptance and passivity.

those are the two most major meanings I've seen for that card. And they're not exclusive.

edit: [up][up] :(

I mean, yeah, I don't exactly use the cards to do readings (though it might be fun to learn), bu I am fascinated by the meanings associated with them.

@story Good to be back

And I'm pretty much interrupting the conversation anyway because I'm heading to bed soon and barely know anything about Persona 4, so yeah. :P

@story: That depends what you're using them for. If you're just trying to rip someone off then yeah, you can make shit up, but there is plenty of actual meaning behind the cards.

@Enlong: Well I think one of the meanings is paradox, so its fine if its other meanings don't exactly fit together.

Well, if the figure has chosen to be in that position, then it could fit both sacrifice and acceptance.

Still tempted to use Pinkie for that slot. Didn't really think too much that she represented the Wheel of Fortune too well. Though I still don't really know who or what would.

edit: oh, and the deck can be used to play French Tarot, an interesting-looking game (which was its original use)

Ace, any chance you could add the first two episodes of Ultra Fast Pony to the ponytime queue? They're about five minutes apiece.
And, since today is apparently National Jump To Conclusions Day...
