Yeah, mostly agree with what's being said. I do think that the D20 system doesn't model Equestria very well though, which is why I went with a D10 system like Exalted.

EDIT:

Makes you question how Blueblood was Celestia's nephew, though.

Well, that's supposed to be distant blood according to Faust. He's related to Celestia on Celestia's mother's side.

Go far enough back in time, and I'm sure you'll find we're both related. Celestia's been around for the entirety of that long time, and Blueblood's family is just really up on their genealogy.

Blueblood is the ancestor of a cousin of the sisters. Meaning Celestia knew his great great great etc grandmother/father.

Fluttershy actually was an earth pony (and Pinkie was a pegasus) in the early planning stages of the show, right?

If we're going to go down the rabbit hole of assigning major personality traits to genetics, why not at least be original about it?

Applejack is so fast because she's part pegasus. (One of her parents was a pegasus—whichever one married into the Apple family.)

Rainbow Dash is competitive because she's part earth pony—she's irrationally afraid that any failure on her part will mean she doesn't deserve her wings.

And, since today is apparently National Jump To Conclusions Day...

Certain ponyfans have a distressing tendency to interpret canon scenes in the worst possible way and then blame the cartoon for it.

I just like the idea of all Alicorns being Family, because it makes me think of them as The Endless, which is nice.

Probly around the same age as Shining Armor, when she was very very young and I always figured she had no specific previous tie to the Crystal Empire. She was destined to lead it, as evidenced by her cutie mark, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's connected to it in terms of like family or whatever.

Basically seconding what Meta said. I heard a lot of people complaining about how the whole "Twilight ascending by finish the spell" thing meant that only unicorns could be princesses, which wasn't really implied. It's just nice to have my interpretation of the events vindicated by an official source.

Yeah what Twi did is simply ONE way to ascend, not the ONLY way.

As to Blueblood, I figure he's descendent of some other pony that the princesses adopted at some point. And very very far removed from them to boot.

It's about more then JUST doing something nopony has done before, it's also about BEING the type of pony that is worthy of being a Princess. Caring, loving, willing to aid anypony that needs it, having the right blend off all the Elements. As well as the ability to lead. The "doing something nopony's done before" bit is just the final test.

Yeah it seem now that a pony (of any tribe) just needs to do something never done before for the good of others with lots of magic involved and hey presto, ascension. Sounds easier than it is though.

E Ps are tricky yes. I mean, I don't know what they could do. Although they do have magic...I've no doubt that they could do Power of Love stuff similar to Cadence's and SA's move.
