I wouldn't necessarily say that she died. We really have no idea WTF was going on there. Celestia was in the same place, and she's alive.
Just like we don't know if
Harry Potter actually died or not.

The Doctor Manhattan jokes are gonna be coming sooner or later, so we may as well start now.
The Avatar State could also work.

Just got back from Katsucon. Watched the episode. Was pleasantly surpised. Everything went better than expected.
Troper. That is my title. The character limit ran out.
Twilight Sparkle is dead. Long live Twilight Sparkle.
I have a message from another time...
Oh, no! They've all transformed into giant, Swedish, lederhosen-clad yodelers! Run!
"Everything is certinaly fine" Twi, why you tempt fate like that?
The other question is how everything got so shiny when it wasn't before.

You were a drummer? Hooray, fellow musician!

They wasted an episode with Spike and the critters and compressed two in one with this finals... :(
More music than you can shake a stave at!

They could kick off 'games' also, and make it a 3-parter. The musical could be the cutie marks swap. Twily could spent the middle episode defating some changeling invasion, when she would reaffirming her talents of leadership and stuff, and asking for Discord's help, and THEN be coronated princess in the third one.
Ha, this series takes it sweet time compared to the original plan for Hasbro to cut them down into 11 minute episodes. Imagine how cliched the episodes would be. Coming up with 40 stories for season 1 alone would have been taxing enough on the writer's creativity. There would have been good episodes, but it would be compressed so much that it would be difficult to make anything meaningful.
And G1 was even worse. Most episodes were 9 minutes and only had about 36 minutes for the longer serials. And the first special feels like a compressed movie. Things could have been much worse is all.

"Welcome. You have entered the cranial vistas of psychogenesis. This is the place of no-time and no-space. Do not be afraid."
In my opinion, the musical gave the episode a cinematic feel. For me it increased the energy and drama of the episode and gave me the impression of being at the last act of a broadway musical, or the final area of an opera.

So, what was everyone's favorite song of the episode?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.
Hard to say. I'll need another look at the episode before I can decide.
