To be honest, overall it wasn't one of the best eps. Lots of stuff happened, but too quickly. Just shoving it all together and stuff. Shoulda been a two parter like whatshisface said before.

Gotta say, this would have been better as a two-part episode. Spend more time dragging ou the problem of the swap. Perhaps devote some time and actual suspense to her reciting the uncomplete spell. Then spend the second episode having her figure out how to bring them back.

But season four is coming which means that there will be more to just "becoming" a princess.
There will be responsibilities, duties, tea parties, small rural backwater villages to manage.

I actually thought the pacing was fine. It felt like a long, actual episode to me.
The ascension bit wasn't really the focus of the episode, just its result. I'm assuming Season 4 will deal with it in more detail.

In before Season Four is about Twi-angst over her new duties.
In any case, it looked like Star Swirl's spell was meant to fully awaken the last Element of Harmony, only he never completed it because he didn't have a true connection to the bearers who lived in his time as friends. Once Twi reverse-engineered his spell, her connection as the Sixth Bearer completed the spell beyond what Star Swirl could have truly imagined.

God...the feels...so many feels. And thank God season four is confirmed, because that felt a lot like a series finale. If I didn't know before, I would be thinking that it's all over, and I couldn't take it.

Yeah, that was pretty good, but there was way too much going on for 22 minutes. The mane plot got solved ridiculously quickly.
That said, the plot itself was good, and the reasoning behind the alicorn thing worked pretty well, it's just that it needed more buildup.
