I thought of something ironic. In the last story, Rarity gave Spike a very long list of nitpicky instruction on a scroll, and in this story, it's Rarity's turn to get a similar long scroll of detailed instructions for something!

Yeah, that's why I agree that it can be ambiguous. However, the pink Celestia toys still have boxart that looks like the character from the show, whereas the Twinkleshine on the boxart doesn't look like the character on the show who she supposedly matches.

Sorry - 'They're saying we can't use their copyrighted intellectual property and we wished really hard that copyright law didn't exist, make them stop being mean'.

I have nothing but respect for the Fighting is Magic team, and it sucks that this has happened, but that's the risk you run making such high-profile fanworks. Copyright law may not be fair (and in this case I hold no opinion on that, except to say that Hasbro is within their rights), but it's a reality. You can't budget and plan on how you think things should be.

Technically it's trademark, not copyright. So I think they could actually realease it legally if they removed all the names and recolored the sprites. But yes, fighting it in court is really stupid.

Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
