Since the new show is apparently supposed to be aimed towards older viewers, a CMC spinoff is unlikely. They probably won't have it set in Ponyville either. So the movie will probably have the cast set out to some new location in Equestria, meet a bunch of ponies that help them with whatever they're doing, and that new set of ponies will get their own show.

Maybe they'll add more plot arcs and continuity. Sort of like what's gradually happened over the last few seasons but much more so.

Yeah, more overt continuity, high school drama, and stigma over MLP being historically bad are about the only things I can think of that would solidly bar FIM from being teen fodder as is. Needless to say, one's good, one's incredibly trashy, and they're already about as good on the third as they'll ever be.

I was thinking, what if it's more directly related to the older MLP stories, like a crossover or something that takes more elements from the older stories? If it's aimed at older girls, it might be aimed at those who watched the earlier series when they were younger, such as myself. The very first ever My Little Pony story, Rescue at Midnight Castle, was a made-for-TV special in itself.

The spinoff actually stars Big Maicntosh, Braeburn, Shining Armor, Fancy Pants, Time Turner, and Soarin' in their various misadventures in manliness. Its totally for girls.

But no really, the Equestria Daily link

has a video in which the guy announcing it mentions a new IP right after announcing the Made-for-TV Movie.

Best case scenario, they go for more involved arc-driven fantasy. Which would be really, really cool and what I'd expect the current writers to take the opportunity for.

Worst case scenario, the spinoff is staffed with focus group heads and we get vapid Disney live-action pop drama.

Actually, that's second-worst. Absolute worst case is human-in-Equestria.

Oh I hope that they don't blow this opportunity. This is what I wanted for the franchise so badly. Spin offs, expansions etc.

wait with Anticipatory Paralysis (which I've just been reminded of from the German comics. I actually think it's a funny concept and should make jokes about it in my fics).

I don't get it.

The German comics reveal that when ponies really look forward to something, they become paralysed. I find this concept hilliarious. And wish to make refferences to it. Apparently the cure is burning barley. But that barley doesn't grow in Equestria. (Seriously, that's really something you'd expect Celestia to have grown loads of if this was a problem.)
