Psi: I think the trope you're looking for to describe this episode is Shaggy Dog Story.
And, since today is apparently National Jump To Conclusions Day...

Lets see

The first part of every two-parter

"The Cutie Mark Chronicles" ended badly for Scootaloo

"The Last Roundup" ended badly for Rarity

This one ended badly for Spike

That's about it as far as I know.

Well that episode was alright.

CMC were kind of annoying. It seems like some episodes they try and distinguish them all, while other episodes they just treat them as a single character all with the same personality. This was one of the latter ones.

I don't like Spike but he's okay to watch if he's irritated all episode, so it was alright.

[up]They don't do the best job diverging their personalities either way, so it's nothing new.

[up][up][up]Suited For Success and Lesson Zero were borderline examples for Rarity and Spike respectively. At the very least Spike ends the latter with a big unsatisfied scowl on his face.

I've only just realised how consistant the 'everyone's happy' resolution is, for a show where nearly every character is a Butt Monkey anyway.

Yeah, any of "X you won't believe aren't photoshopped" things are usually really interesting.

I think after the first few they started scraping teh bottom of the barrel. Half the pictures they pick nowadays don't look remotely photoshopped.

I never had single problem with CMC. One of their episodes (Stare Master) was one of first I watched and I loved it.

I don't mind them, they get a bit irritating on occasions, though no more so than other leads such as Pinkie. They are likeable enough, I just wish they did a better job making them individual characters. I mean they did a better job of it to a bunch of non anthro animals within the course of one episode.

[up][up]That was actually the first episode I ever watched too. I thought the CMC were the main characters of the show.

I thought this was one of the better CMC portrayals actually.

I don't think Cutie Mark Chronicles ended badly for Scootaloo. She finally got to hear Rainbow Dash's cutie mark story, after all. So she had to listen to a song at the end. Big deal. Suck it up, kid.

The CMC definitely have individual personalities when the writers get around to it. Scoots is very much a tomboy, Sweetie is at the other end of the girly/tomboy spectrum and has this thing where she's either really naive or surprisingly canny, depending on the subject. And Applebloom can be very subborn and/or hot-headed, and is the one who's most worried about cutie marks.

As to Peewee, I'm happy that they found his original parents, and that they apparently parted ways on very good terms. I wish we'd seen more of him, but I'm very glad that his parents didn't have to spend their numerous lives thinking that they lost their child.
I have a message from another time...

There is one very important thing to be decided. What was the cutest part of the episode?

This? Or this?

You know Phoenixes should be used to losing children because of predators, since its only way that species can fit to ecosystem

Where is the gif of them dancing at the end though?

What the heck?

The CM Cs have always had decent episodes, ..excepting "The Show Stoppers".

AB is The Kirk and yet the most determined to get the Cutie Mark, ... and she gets an absurd amount of screentime compared to the others

Sweetie Belle is The Spock, definitely the most logically oriented (as best demonstrated in "One Bad Apple") and straightforward with her feelings whereas AB and Scoots both hide feelings to avoid embarrassment

And Scoots is The McCoy and rashest, and the first one to hide her feelings (which is a plot point in "Sleepless in Ponyville"), yet she often is the first to propose the ideas. In contrast to AB, she gets the least screentime

Where the hell would you get the idea they're all the same?

That was actually the first episode I ever watched too. I thought the CMC were the main characters of the show.

The first episode I watched was Over A Barrel. I didn't even notice Twilight and I thought the show would be a lot more adventure based than it was.
