Whatever the actual plot ends up being, I'm still just hoping to get an actual Rainbow Dash centered/sung song out of at least on of the episodes.

I'll be pleased if it turns out to be an Earth Pony. An EP showing up one of the best Pegasi would give them serious Badass points.

I don't think AJ would go for revenge like that. She only wanted to beat Rainbow Dash in the Running of the Leaves because RD cheated, and as the Element of Honesty, that really bugged her.

A Wonderbolt would already have a costume they could alter to be a masked crusader. I'm starting to like this "Wonderbolt tests RD" idea.
