It's not that we didn't notice the cues. It's that it still happened too fast. Which is the fault of the episodes being too short. If he had been with Fluttershy for longer, like maybe a couple days instead of just one, it wouldn't have seemed as sudden.

@Kyler: I noticed that it was there, but I don't think it's quite enough to keep the episode from feeling a bit rushed. Those cues don't start showing up until over halfway through, after all.
EDIT: This is kinda random, but somebody on Fimfiction put together a little survey among people who like shipping, so if you have a few minutes to kill, it would be cool if you could take a look at it. Although I should note it's more aimed towards people who don't mind it to find out what makes certain ships popular and such, so if you don't like shipping it probably won't mean much.
