I remember back in the day playing Neopets on dialup. I'd connect, load the game, disconnect, play for a while, and then reconnect to submit my score.

I don't know which was worse with dial-up: the missed calls, or getting disconnected from the internet because my dial-up service would inexplicably decide, "This call will go through."
