The Simpsons is an example of that done wrong. Their story has been rewritten so many times its just lost all meaning.
Tealove is best pony.
Ask The Mane Six
@Seraphem: Hmm... 1, 2, 3... 3 arrows points to my post.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
I don't even know why I hate Shining Armor and Cadance's introduction anymore.
This I do so that I will not live in regret.
Yeah, that's not a plot hole, that's "Three fillies were scared and happened to hide in the same place."
Soo... they weren't that surprised to find that Twilight hadn't mentioned her brother? Twilight doesn't seem the type to talk about her family at length, after all.
Yeah, because the fact that people have siblings is SO surprising. I nearly dropped a brick when I found out my coworker was going to his brother's house for Christmas.
Ummm no rewatch, she say "The maraige of Mi Amore Cadenza and.... MY BROTHER!" Follwed by the rest of them shooting into frame to read the letter and all saying "Your Brother!?" at once, then cut to opening song.

That's the problem with
Negative Continuity. But then you don't watch
The Simpsons for the story.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
There's always time for an extended song and dance number.
@Seraphem: Whether the songs are any good or not depends on the individual. I think that some of them are amazing, but some of them throw off the pacing of the episodes.
With musicals, the conceipt is generally that the songs don't actually happen. Songs usually either represent the inner thoughts of a character or represent things that happened nonmusically in reality.
