...although, since they gain power from love, and love and hate are ultimately very similar, maybe Hate could unlock a sort of Superpowered Evil Side. They get extra power via extra obsession, but it's poisonous, so they can never eat too much of it or it'll rot them.
That reminds me of Fire And Ice.

Good point. Windogos feed off it. So in theory, Changelings could too.
Or, you could play it that changelings and windigos are natural enemies. The Final Quest of Star Swirl the Bearded had a cool scene where a changeling hive, knowing that the windigos are coming, try to convince Star Swirl to side with them in the upcoming battle.

@JT: I don't actually recall Chrys ever visibly feeding on love, though. I always assumed it was an invisible process.

My headcanon for it is it is normally a small, invisible thing, just slowly draining them over time without anypony noticing, the comic scene, is them simply drawing out a large amount faster then normal. basically normally they just sip the love away, this was them downing a big gulp of it.

My headcanon for it is it is normally a small, invisible thing, just slowly draining them over time without anypony noticing, the comic scene, is them simply drawing out a large amount faster then normal. basically normally they just sip the love away, this was them downing a big gulp of it.
I still like the image from the Filly Queen Chrysalis Tumblr of her eating an actual heart shape. It's so cute.

RE: The comic pages: I dunno, that seems pretty far-fetched to me. I get that this comic is supposed to be canon and all, but I'm having a hard time buying that's how they feed. The show states that they infiltrate and disguise themselves as a loved one, then feed off the love that the pony their impersonating would get from their loved ones. If they could just do that, why bother with impersonaltion in the first place?
That said, OMIGOD I love the art in that comic.

@Kegi: They can only eat love directed at them. Normally, that means adopting a lovable disguise. The cats are too loving and naive for them to need a disguise. That said, it's amusing consChrysalis said that Equestria had more love than any other nation.

So assuming that comics are canon, its confirmed that changeling can feed at any love directed at them. Fanon (my prefered) where they can only feed on love toward disguise is jossed. It's not that big issue for me and I so far like that comic so I can accept it.
Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.

@Kegi: It looks like the cats are perfectly willing to give the changelings love without the need for elaborate disguises. Even in the non flashback panels that cat looks pretty stoked to see Chrysalis. So I guess they just love everyone unconditionally.
