I actually never write anything that's not a parody, I was thinking about a parody mashup between something like The Cave of Time and maybe ponies. Like, the reader decides the path she/he will follow.

It will be labeled a "fanfic" just because.

Going off of what I view a fanfic as, that still sounds like one. And I'm pretty sure being a parody doesn't exclude it from being a fanfic.

I kind of agree, but I'm trying to understand where the line is drawn. Maybe if the ponies in my work have parody names like "jappleack" or "craybon jash" (urgh, need better names) it wouldn't be so "fanfic-ish"?

@Osias: I guess if you (a fan) are writing a non-canonical story about established characters, that's a fanfic. Parodies and crossovers included. I can't say where the line is (or even if there is a line) because I don't really know.

@Osias: My understanding of it is that it's fanfic if it utilizes the setting, characters, or cosmology from the show's canon. The only way a parody could not be a fanfic is if every element was replaced with something else. Like you replace Applejack with Pearsteve, Equestria with Hippoland, and cutie marks with adorasymbols or something. But if your using any of that stuff straight, characters from the show, or set in the same universe, or whatever, it would technically count as fanfic.

And even if you replace all that stuff, it would still be a fanfic of whatever universe you're crossing it over with.

I say it still counts as fanfic even if you rename everything. You no longer have to worry much about copyright, but it's still a fanfic.

Also, JT, G1 ponies were pretty close to hippos.

I'm still not sure what the deal with the hippo at the start of the comic is.

@Apple: I noticed you have some whitespaces. Suggestion: put the outlines on a layer above the main colouring, use Layer Masks to crop the colouring down to the areas you need it in.
