I'd like to think that I'm more of an Idiot Savant, but that would require me to actually be good at something.

This is my first pure digital drawing. It's very fugly...I think I should keep pencil and paper in the equation for now.

That's not too bad. You get better with practice. Try thicker strokes.

Drawing in a larger resolution and then zooming out will help you with those jagged lines that a low-res picture gets, too.

Definitely. I think I just need to slow down too when doing these.

It depends on the program you use, I guess. If you use Photoshop, you could get some nice clean strokes with the brush set to between 15 and 20 weight. Egophiliac has some nice tutorials on her deviantART page.

Inking.

Coloring.

It's pretty much how I learned to draw in Photoshop.

If you can't afford Photoshop, GIMP is a decent (free) substitute. It's what I do my digital inking and coloring in.

Well, those guides should still avail you then. Those tips are pretty basic.

I've got GIMP on my desktop and Photoshop 6.0 in my older netbook running XP. Yes, PS 6.0, long before Creative Suite [lol]

I'm not competent enough with GIMP to justify getting Photoshop.

Yeah thanks guys. smile

Y'know, this has made me remember how much I love drawing. I started doing it since I was no age (artwork I did at age 4 still adorns our GP's waiting room, and more art I did in school sits in another health clinic's waiting room after netting me £40!) I stopped doing it after school though, and it's now been 4 years since I did it seriously. I'm very rusty as you can all see...and I was always more of a landscape guy anyway.

But, as they say...practice makes perfect!

That's the problem. I will never be interested enough to dedicate time to practicing art, and hence I will never be any good at it.

I'm still here!

And I'm watching feeling pinkie keen to understand magic,

It just occurs to me...could magic music be a thing in FIM?

With a musically inclined unicorn, I don't see why not.

Hm... Lyra?
These changing years, they add to your confusion.

Maybe...although the other tribes might get in on it. A song blown on a flute could be a stand in for spell casting...although much more limited of course.

Didn't Swarm of the Century make magic music canon?

Anyway, Bards are tier 3 for a reason.

I forgot about swarm of the century! There, my crap has possible canon basis! grin

Also, what's tier 3?

And y'know...thinking about the Pinkie Sense...is it possible that EP magic can manifest as the equivalent of psychic powers? Mind reading...telepathy...stuff like that? So long as it doesn't actually make a visible effect (that's the unicorns hat).
