Fun fact: Berry Punch and her filly are both usually an earth pony and a unicorn respectively, but they've both been shown as pegasi. Berry Punch in "Winter Wrap Up" & "Fall Weather Friends", and her filly in "Friendship is Magic, part 2" (IIRC, that was her first appearance, and she didn't show up in her usual earth pony form until later).

Iterestign point agains Ditzy Doo as name for Derpy.

And yet the one to return with a flock of birds is Derpy-with-Purple hair, and I'm pretty sure those ponies show up throughout the episode in Ponyville as well. But I think that's overanalzing something that in terms of the plot isn't that important.

goes with that, anyways.

And "alcoholic mother" is basically Berry's Fanon in a nutschell :P

Oh yes. Much of it. Waaaaaaaaaay to much of it. Like, a depressing amount. To the degree where her only fanon interpretations is now that she's a sloppy drunk. It's one of the few things about the fandom that irks me.

Well it would help if we had more male characters. We can't pair everypony up with Big Mac after all.

The grapes cutie mark don't help her case. Even her animator thought of her as the drunk.

I think it comes partly from her cutie mark having grapes. In fact Sibsy, the animator that did that scene says she specifically picked Berry because of her cutie mark and thought "Yep, she's the drinker!". Totally didn't copy paste that from the character page. No sir wee.

no, there's still plenty of male background ponies. Not so many focus characers, but there's still in the range of 70 or 80 recorded male characters, last I checked.

Also, Mousa: That is not what vicariously means, unless you are describing something really weird.

Berry is only major backgroud pony who I can accept as mother.

I don't see her as alkoholic, more like pony who like drink alot (there is diffrence between those to).

They are like the others. Strange, hideous, resisting, fighting. Only these were not like the others. They did not die.

Okay, but the problem is most of the background males aren't nearly as popular. And while the ones that are do get shipped, straight shipping stories have a tendency to give the males to the mane cast.
