I can't find it on Derpibooru now, but I recall an amusing image macro. It said "This is what I think of your stupid Twilight/Mordecai shipping!" pasted over the clip from "Too Many Pinkie Pies" of Twilight turning the blue jay into an orange.

I think the biggest reason I find it unlikely is, what kind of family business is more important than, you know, your frakking family?

If they're just traveling, then they'd at least show up for the family reunion, or an excuse will be given for them if they don't. If they aren't mentioned at all on Saturday, then I'm kinda forced to assume the worst.

Thread hopping, I liked the idea that AJ's parents are either dead/not around, and she grew up with her brother and her grandmother and her little sister. It shows that there's more than one kind of family, you know?

I am pretty sure her parents are dead. There isn't really anything else that could plausibly explain why they're not around.

I mean REALLY important for family (entire Apple clan) or maybe even Equestria like expanding country, creating new settlements or helping existing ones. And they don't need to be always on that road. They can raise child to AB age and back to traveling.

Or maybe AJ have more brothers and sisters and only those 3 sibling live with Granny Smiths because without they would be alone and could also care for Poniville apple orchard.

They would have been at the family reunion if they were still alive. The Apple family sticks together.

Say, I've never been big on magic items, because I feel that they were kind of 'cheap' (any character can be a badass when given a super weapon. The ones who get by on their own skill and training are way more badass than them imo), but what about ones built by the character themself?

If they are dead now where they were during AJ flashback in Cutie Mark Chronies before AB was born?

@Death: We don't know that was before AB was born. In fact, all things considered the timing kind of implies she definitely was.

Assuming CM's come around puberty age, and given that Apple Family are late bloomers, that puts AJ at about 11 or 12 in the flashback, and AB about 11 or 12 in the main show. At the very youngest AJ would have been about 9 or 10. So in order for AB to have not been born during the flashback, AJ would have to be at least 22, possibly older. It's not impossible, but it is unlikely, since Big Mac is her Big Bro and he feels early 20's at best as well.

AB was probably just too young to be out and about during the flashback. She was probably just in bed or something.

In her crib sleeping sounds the most plausible reason.

They are obviously not around because of THE BABY.
