Regarding RD and AJ's elements, we could take a page from Kanaya and theorize that the elements choose their avatars partially to challenge their personal growth, not just because they represent them perfectly.

For some reason, the idea of Fluttershy as a goth wouldn't get out of my head. I said before that Fluttergoth would probably be clinically depressed, but upon further thought, I can see it playing out differently. Basically, because of her camaraderie with animals, she's very keenly aware of how deadly and violent nature is. And she's perfectly okay with it. Thus, she's cheerfully morbid, and doesn't get why nopony else feels the same way she does about death:

Rainbow Dash: Hey Fluttershy. How's it hanging?
Fluttershy: I'm one day closer to becoming worm food.
Rainbow Dash: Um...
Fluttershy: Isn't it wonderful?

Speaking of fanfiction, I had Cutie Mark Chronicles on last night as I was lying in bed, and it got me thinking what the mane six would have turned out like if Rainbow hadn't done a sonic rainboom that day. AJ would have grown up in Manehattan to become a socialite, Fluttershy never would have left Cloudsdale, Rarity gave up on fashion, etc. Has this already been written?

In terms of the results of no sonic rainboom. The writing itself is decent.

EDIT: As much as I like the Fluttergoth concept, I'm not sure what the plot would be for Death Is Magic. If I just take canon episodes and change FS's parts, that would get old fast.
