Also, I'm surprised noone commented on Orion's appearence.

Colin even appeared and mentioned it

Latest The Dresden Fillies chapter. Lyra/Bon Bon officially happens. Also, Harry Soul Gazes Bon Bon. Bon Bon calls him a man of steel and fire. Awesome and touching. I wonder if Lyra will catch on. Celestia's fighting a flood thinking she can suppress the knowledge of Fae and the Never Never.

Watched the episode a bit ago. And Bluespade was definitely right about the shipping fuel. I still don't think it compares to the thing with Twilight and Rarity at the end of Crystal Empire. I don't know why, I might have just been in a really shippy mood when I saw it.

Anyway, I really liked Pinkie in this episode for some reason and I found the thing about some other pony remembering the Mane 6 as their friends when they get the care package strangely hilarious.

And for some reason Pinkie opening and closing the mailbox made me think of checking the thread for new posts on a slow day.

So what's the consensus on the episode?

My favorite thing about this episode was how much it shows Rainbow's development over the course of the series. It's very easy to imagine a first season or maybe even early second season Rainbow in Lightning Dust's horseshoes here.

What about Sonic Rainboom ?

[up][up]Generally good. Some people have problems with the characterization of Spitfire and the treatment of Lightning Dust in the end, but everyone seems to agree that RD's character took a massive leap today.

[up]What about it? That had nothing to do with recklessness.

Like I just said, she gets the dishonorable discharge.

She should consult a doctor.

the pinkie thing was amusing and funny

Really? I found it completely out of left field and a tad annoying.

Now I know what should've replaced the Pinkie subplot, ...a good Continuity Nod to the last episode, like maybe have Scoots appear for a second.

Agreed.

Pinkie's B plot was kind of essential to set up the climactic confrontation, though.

They easily could have worked it in without the excessive shipping. Just have hte mane 6 want to check up on her or watch during the finals, or something.

@Story Pinkie having separation anxiety from one of her friends is not "shipping". There's no romantic subtext at all. She's just a clingy friend.

What I'm still trying to figure out is, Whether Spitfire put RD as a wingpony to try and teach her to work as part of a team, or whether she genuinely though that LD would lead RD well. I mean, On the one hand it would almost make more sense to make them both leaders of separate teams, but on the other RD and LD where the only ones who could keep up with each other, and the fact that LD liked to push meant that they were liable to do a little extra. At the same time though, Spitfire does know what Dash is capable of, so it seems like a bit of a waste.

I thought it would be a Secret Test of Character, but based on her reaction at the end, I think she honestly thought LD's way was better.

[up] That part surprised me, a lot. I expected the Secret Test of Character to. I don't know whether I like it or not though, because I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it didn't happen.

yeah, think of it as a callback to Party of One. Pinkie has serious separation anxiety issues.

Now I'm thinking of a reason why Orion is training in the WB academy. I've never defined him as a serious flier.

Like Roid Rage was?

Twi used it in the S2 premiere to chase a Discorded Dashie, Pinkie borrowed it in the Running of the Leaves for commentary, and they took it up to Cloudsdale to watch Dashie compete in the Young Fliers.

In other words, not since Season 1+. Of course, the balloon did show up in MMDW.

@Story: That's because at the point she made the teams LD seemed to legitimately be pushing herself as much or more than RD was. It wasn't until after the teams were made that it became evident that LD wasn't leadership material. Which was honestly the whole point. Spitfire already knew that RD could lead effectively (she oversaw the water gathering in Hurricane Fluttershy after all), but what she didn't know was how RD would handle following somepony else, hence why RD was the wingpony.

As for LD's Draco in Leather Pants thing, on one hand, what she did was tremendously dickish and terrible. On the other hand, learning from one's mistakes and overcoming flaws is a major theme in the series, so I find it unlikely that one nasty incident, bad as it is, would completely ruin any chance she ever has of getting back in. If (and I admit it's a really big IF) she acknowledges that she royally screwed up and honestly resolved to be a better team player, I could definitely see the Wonderbolts allowing her to return to the tryouts. It wouldn't get glossed over, of course, but I do think it's entirely possible that she could redeem herself. Whether or not she would do that is something we don't know.

The only characters in the show who are utterly irredeemable are those who refuse to acknowledge or learn from their flaws.

But I've stated my opinion and I respect all of yours - So can we talk about how funny Roid Rage was with his tiny little wings and he didn't even need to go "YEAH?"

My favorite part is when he started eating the cloud.

You missed me saying so twice, once in the last three pages, and once in the Spoiler Thread on Wednesday or Thursday

Well up to the point in the thread reactions where I was at the time, noone had commented yet. Apparently everyone missed his first appearance, or just didn't bother commenting on it.

Watching the episode again, there's a nice little detail at the beginning. After Spitfire chews out Rainbow Dash and RD responds with "No, Ma'am! I'd never quit ma'am!", Spitfire smiles. Nice little hint she does recognize ol' Rainbow Dash, for those who think she's acting way Out of Character.
