I doubt Leadership really could have done to LD what she ended up doing, although I don't doubt the little ego boost probably helped things along.
What I'm still trying to figure out is, Whether Spitfire put RD as a wingpony to try and teach her to work as part of a team, or whether she genuinely though that LD would lead RD well. I mean, On the one hand it would almost make more sense to make them both leaders of separate teams, but on the other RD and LD where the only ones who could keep up with each other, and the fact that LD liked to push meant that they were liable to do a little extra. At the same time though, Spitfire does
know what Dash is capable of, so it seems like a bit of a waste.
But then, What you are in training doesn't decide your role on the team, I suppose. Plus, when you think about it, considering the wingpony has to respond to everything their leader does
and add to it with splitsecond timing, the wingpony may actually be the superior flyer of the two.
Heh. I suppose this all just goes to show the solidness of the episode, because for a good while I genuinely shared RD's disappointment that she wasn't made leader, which is odd because I don't normally sympathize with her, and I'm not a leadership type myself.
