Looking at the details, it seems like they put a lot of effort into Apple Family Reunion, suggesting we'll get a good long awaited AJ episode. Sadly it's also been officially confirmed there will be no pony mental breakdown this episode.sad

It's gag from way back at season one. There was a commercial for something (Pound Puppies, I think) that included the phrase "Secret, but fun!" and the internet being the internet...yeah.

Was the whole trademark issue just a problem when Lauren Faust was developing the show? Did they just want to make sure the main characters are definitely trademarks they can make toys for, like Pinkie Pie? The whole trademark thing for old ponies confuses me to no end.

They probably just want trademarks for everypony they plan to release as a toy. They don't need trademarks per se.
