There's also only three of them and they're younger. The CMC don't have fully developed brains and they have fledgling personalities. People grow more diverse as they get older.

@ Kyler: And to put that to the test, let's take some Dethroning Moments entries and discuss them.

Still doesn't change the fact that they rarely if ever fight. That kind of unity isn't that ubiquitous in children.

Also, Derpibooru is screwing with me again. I go to Derpibooru.org, and log in, and it redirects me to Derpiboo.ru. WHY!?

The CMC's are kinda strange in how they are characterized, it's not really a straight Star Trek trio

It's more like Sweetie is the character that usually is the leader and probably woud be if she had a leveler-head. While Apple Bloom is the like the Southern Fried Genius whose only leader because of her level head

Scoots is a straight Mc Coy however

But under the four ensembles it's even stranger: Sweetie appears to be the Phelgmatic, despite being The Kirk. Scoots seems to be The Choleric despite The McCoy usually being more sanguine, and Apple Bloom is The Sanguine even though The Kirk is usually more Choleric.

If anything they are even more tough to figure out than the Mane Cast which have obvious Trios that fall under both Red Oni and Blue Oni

There are Kirks (Fluttershy is the Blue Oni Kirk, ...though only just, while Rainbow Dash is clearly the Red Oni Kirk)

There are Spocks (Twilight Sparkle is a good Kirk, but becuase of her logical incline fits this even better, and AJ is easily the Red Oni counterpart)

There are Mc Coys (Pinkie and Rarity are this, shows best in "Putting Your Hoof Down")

And Spike is the ultimate Middle of the Road to all this.

But the CMC's don't quite work like that.

This is also a show where all problems are solved in 22 minutes. Let's not look for hyper-realism here, okay?

Now then, to prove that we CAN handle complaints about the show well. From the Dethroning Moments section, we have:

  • The Show Stoppers
    • Troper: On The Hill: If the episode had centered around the Cutie Mark Crusaders thinking only of their cutie marks and forcing themselves to work at tasks they hate, then alright. That would be one thing. But they're very clearly enthusiastic about the roles they assign themselves — Scootaloo and Apple Bloom don't want to dance and design sets, respectively, and Sweetie Belle is just flat out afraid to sing in front of a crowd. Even when their lack of natural talents frustrate them, they assist each other and keep on working hard, and in the end they go from a tone-deaf, stumbling, joke of an act to a pretty decent one indeed, stage mishaps aside. Even this wouldn't be so bad if Twilight Sparkle, of all ponies, didn't have the stones to walk up to them, cringe when she hears their plans, and begin to ask them if they're "sure" focusing on something other than their innate talents is such a good idea. That she didn't get to finish and possibly crush their enthusiasm is a miracle. Quite frankly, I could go on and on about this one, but the ultimate aesop is "don't ever try new things and don't work to improve yourself. If something doesn't come easily at first, you aren't meant to do it." And that's absolutely sickening.

Let's not. It feels about as bad-wrong as importing drama. (It may even, in fact, be importing drama.)

There's no need to sharpen my pencils anymore. My pencils are sharp enough.
Even the dull ones will leave a mark.

Scootaloo was the most 'anti huggy' one in Cutie M Ark Chronicles, but it hasn't appeared since.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

Dramaception?
Everything's been done. Everything has a meaning. However your life at best is to serve as a building block for others.

Yeah, I'd rather not touch that stuff with a ten-foot pole. All I'll say is that that exact complaint has in fact been raised and discussed.

The only actual complaint I see in that entry is the (misinterperted) Accidental Aesop.

Why would we want to take manure from a different part of TV Tropes and fertilize this thread with it, exactly? just bugs me

True; 'The Show Stoppers' was what, episode 18 of S1 or something?

Either way, we do have pre-determined cutie mark versus 'you get what you love to do' cutie mark discussions from time to time, and they're usually pretty civil, if somewhat tiring since we've been over the topic so many times.

I just took an entry at random. I didn' t think it would matter which Season it came from.

One thing I'd like people who are weary of The Cuties Marks to remember is that they only represent what the pony is best at doing. Twilight, while a magical expert, also studies in many, many other fields and the other members of the Mane Six also have skills not associated with the image of their rump, too.

I'd rather not touch Dethroning. Leave it sealed in the depths of Darth Wiki, until the stars are right.

@Story: That, and they're massively overstating Twilight's reaction. She didn't cringe because the girls were focusing on the wrong talents, she cringed because she realized that they were about to embarrass themselves in front of a large audience. The only thing that kept them from being utterly humiliated is the fact that their performance was So Bad, It's Good rather than So Bad Its Horrible. Just look at their faces when the audience bursts into laughter after the song ends. They quite obviously feel horrible, and Twilight was trying to protect them from that.

There's a big difference between merely trying something new and trying something new while setting yourself up for public failure.

IMO, Cutie Marks represent what they're passionate about more than what they're good at.

@JT There is overlap, but they can be quite separate as well. Skill is related to practice, and you practice things more when you enjoy them. Sometimes, though, you get really good at things that you don't enjoy at all. I was really good at math and music in school, but I'm not nearly passionate enough about them to want do fully involve myself in them for the rest of my life.
