Awesome episode. Possibly the best of the season. I'll have to wait until I'm sure that it's not merely due to proximity before I decide if it's this one or Magic Duel.

Also, Luna is way more powerful than I thought. We knew that she could multi-locate, but for it to be her duty to enter her subjects' dreams implies a much higher scale than I anticipated.

Also, I saw some discussion about relative episode quality. I like every episode. Even those I have issues with like Too Many Pinkie Pies. But it looks like I need to bring out my tier list again:

Now, Mio will of course disagree with me that Mc Carthy is the best writer, but yeah.

I like my characters being shown as flawed and vulnerable. Because I'm flawed and vulnerable. It's one of the reasons that I pretty much never chose the main character as my favourite. Twilight is a notable exception. The only other one I can think of off hand is Thrice-Radiant Misho. Though in both cases I really like their supporting casts as well. Those two characters actually have a lot in common. Including both being Twilights.

Dreamscape Domain Power is high, but not that high.

We're not talking "Has to whisper as their voice will reshape the world" powerful or "Cannot give out names without permanently attaching those names" :V (...or "must conciously resist the urge to seize Superuser level permissions when visiting someone else's universe")

Of course it's kinda OP and explains where Luna got her title of Nightmare Moon.

Mc Carthy admitedly made my favorite episode, otherwise Morrow and Rogers tend to make a lot of my top episodes.

I think it's a common problem getting the balance with main characters. They either lack enough flaws and suffer Designated Protagonist Syndrome or they have them exacerbated and spend every episode making an ass of things (Sonic the Hedgehog is a particular character who often suffers from both problems depending on enterpretation). When it comes to developing supporting characters, it's often having the problem of the main character being the only flawed character, or the only one who isn't.

This is why Ensemble Cast shows tend to work better, since they take the time to develop a load of other characters equally and moderate their roles suitably. Twilight is a well balanced character that gets rather vivid moments of competence and flaws, albeit partly due to the fact she is a very marginal "lead" character (in which case she still kinda suffers Designated Protagonist Syndrome but for different more forgiveable reasons).

@Ace: You're missing the point. What is the population of Equestria? Using popultion dynamics, someone estimated the population of Ponyville as around 4000 (with a large margin of error, but whatever). In order for Luna to fulfil her duties, how many thousands of places is she at once!?

EDIT: I do mostly agree with you, but Twilight's flaws have always been obvious.

@Sereg: Nopony ever mentions Luna visiting their dreams, so it is entirely possible she only intervenes when Night Horrors and True Nightmares threaten to pierce the veil between the Dreamscape and the Real World. You'd think with a Domain like that more ponies would recognise and appreciate her presence.

Also her Domain also explains her Fallen Title of Nightmare Moon. Clearly she was using her dream manipulation at that point in time to give ponies nightmares and insomnia.

Also I'm too used to seriously hax powers. Must be all those trips to Gensokyo, where everyone cheatyfaces.

Also, I read Medaka Box. I know HAX. I don't mean that Luna is OMGWTFBBQPWNOVERPOWERED! Just a lot more powerful than I previously thought. She's still nowhere near some other characters.

Time flows differently in the Dreamscape anyways. Entire lifetimes can flow in the space of a single REM sleep cycle. In my own case, I have limited permanence by "saving" the memory of my dreams but I don't do that often.

Between Touhou and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Type-Moon, I know a fair bit about hax myself lol.

After the latest episode, I had some major Fridge Brilliance about Nightmare Moon's name. I'm not sure if I like the implication that Luna can spy on ponies during their dreams, though. It's a bit creepy to be honest.

This episode was.....okay. I liked it but it's probably my least favourite of season 3 so far.
