A gardening tool doesn't quite seem right to me for that kind of thing. Maybe my fantasy nerd instincts are just rejecting it. Perhaps a staff or a gnarled tree limb (with leaves always growing on it for bonus cool points)?

Yeah, brandishing a rake doesn't seem like a very wizardly thing to do.
Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead.

@ Perpetual Lurker: She was like that from the beginning of the episode. At first, I thought it was just her worry about her little animal friends. Anxiety can often stick around and build, especially when other more stressful situations arrive. But here's the thing, Fluttershy didn't protest Rainbowdash sending her animal friends through the Ghastly Gorge but she is terrified of Twilight Sparkle levitating them? (I know Twilight turned a bird into an orange earlier...but hey, she's gotten better at magic. Lol )

Also, despite showing some initial fear, Fluttershy usually steps up. She tries to hide when she learns that she has to go into the Evergreen Forest despite entering quite easily to find the CMC in Stare Master. I know she's not the bravest pony and Trixe's takeover of Ponyville was jarring, but it doesn't really excuse her rather neurotic behavior.

It did make for some cute moments though.

@ J Teeth: I might go on an Archive Binge and let you know one of these days [lol] (I really should be working on my own things)

@ Seraphem: Thanks for writing. And your welcome.

[up]x4 Fallen leaves, I conquer thee! (Sorry, spent like...three weeks raking my yard, a magical rake sounds really badass right about now)

Again, though, she always has to take a moment to gather her courage before doing things like that, and she was never given the opportunity here. And if anything, I'd call the Ghastly Gorge moment the one that's a bit out of character for her rather than this one.

This picture is all I could think about while recovering from my first night out drinking (and the subsequent first hangover, though I'm more jittery/nervous than tired).

Did anyone play Runescape? I remember one quest that gave you an echanted gardening tool to do battle with an evil plant. I don't remember waht it was though.

I see nothing wrong with magical gardening implements. I even remember a joke homebrew Dn D magic item. IIRC it was called the Mighty Rake. Only the greatest farmers were able to hold it without spontaneously disintegrating into fertiliser which instantly sprouts an entire field of wheat. It could be used as an epic weapon and granted an insanely huge bonus to farming attempts. With, combined with the utterly huge number of ranks you need in Proffession (farmer) just to use it probably meant that you were solving the world hunger problem by yourself (can't remember the stats exactly and can't really calculate what you'd be earning at this time of night).

I think it just depends on how silly it's supposed to be. Sure, any old implement would work, but if you plan for the wielder of the relic to look imposing, then a gardening tool is not the right way to go. It could make for a nice Indiana Jone-style test if it were just an unassuming tool, though.

The only rake wielder I remember right now is the Pyro, and that's not even what s/he usually does.

Never underestimate the good ol' pitchfork. (I know it's more of a farming tool, but still, those things are scary.)

Do you read Erfworld by any chance? Two of the most powerful artifacts in the world look like a child's toy hammer and a giant pair of pliers.

I got hooked the weekend Luna Eclipsed came out. Saw the SF Debris review of the pilot, liked it, checked it out on the site, saw it was on youtube, archive binged that weekend, by the end I was a brony.

and really wish Kkat would get back to me on that question...preferably before i get to the part of the story where I need the answer for.
