That's a tough one, there's so many good episodes. One Bad Apple is a recent favorite, Party for One will always be near the top of the list, as will The Last Roundup. I guess that makes my top three for now.
Silly, but usually the good kind. Sometimes the annoying kind, though.
Depending on how you define "background pony"... Lyra? That, or the crystal librarian.
Oh wow, the recent episode changes things. Maybe, but I don't think Trixie is the random huggy type anyway.

Every darn time I search garage sales and flea markets for jazz vinyl, I find Chuck Magnione LP's. Their sheer ubiquity makes me nervous to try one; part of my brain is convinced that, since he was so popular, he must have been the brass answer to Kenny G.

I only know him for his "Feels So Good" album, which is a mixed bag. Of the six songs on it, I like three of them. I find the others quite boring.

Keeping this post pony-related, it seems that Luna has a cider problem.

Not much. Not only do different people like different episodes, but people like the same episodes for different reasons, and even people who like something for the same reason can be quite different.
