A character doesn't have to be a brony analogue to be an Audience Surrogate. It just means that he's the semi-clueless bystander that has things explained to him for the benefit of the audience, which he was in that case, as well as many other times throughout the series.

@Some idiot on /mlp saying that Dragon Quest was sexist: Well, that's not the first time I've heard someone saying something stupid about the episode {As much as I don't like it: My complaints about the episode are pretty much the same as JT's}. I mean, I still remember when someone on this site thought that the Teenage Dragons were a Take that towards the show's dislikers. I mean whut {Then again, it was on the DMOS page, but it was also on the trope page of the episode last I checked}......

I don't think that Dragon Quest was necessarily intended to be a Take That against brony haters or traditional machismo, but that was the subtext I personally read into it, in kind of an Accidental Aesop kind of way.
