I say that the Griffons are Franco-Germanic in the fashion of the Carolingian Empire.

It managed to stay together after their Charlemange analogue died (or perhaps he's still alive).

Yesterday, I proposed the idea that the Griffon Emperor sits on the Cosmic Council...and he's also Deathclaw from Warhammer...making him like 15 feet tall and about 10 tons. This is be in the webcomic.

Speaking of griffins talking like the Swedish Chef, that reminds me of a thing I saw on Ask Pia Ikea where the artist very nearly put the Swedish Chef into an update about meatballs XD

There's one fanfic where Voltaire ends up in Equestria's past (quite a few hundred years before show present) and he influences the world for the better with his ideas.

One of the fanon concepts introduced was the Gryphons being enslaved by the Dragons in the past, but they managed to free themselves and start a republic based on their natures as lions/eagles.

Also, if nothing else the official map

points to where Griffons are, and if Equestria is a parody of America, Griffons are European I guess.

Well of the two griffons we've met, one had a French accent. Gilda didn't have an accent, but she presumably lived in Equestria if she was going to school there.

Actually, it's interesting to note that for all intents and purposes, Equestria is America. The map even matches up to a map of the united states perfect.

Also they use human tech even when it doesn't make much sense. And they follow American sports.

Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
