@Apple: Well, Trottingham is notably not on the Map of Equestria, meanign it probably fills in for britain, at least. Actually if anything, I would imagine the girffons would live in Asia among the mountains. Course, they're european monsters, so hard to say. They just seem like mountainous creatures to me.
I'd personally peg the Griffons as Scandinavian, but that's just me.
