How about this? The mirror pool is actually a wishing pool and it just happens that everypony who goes there wishes to be duplicated? (Due to the legends, only people who want ot be duplicated seek it out since thats what they think it does)

My favorite Daring Do story by far remains Whip and Wing. Because Indiana Jones and Nazis. Also the villains are, in Indy tradition, killed off in the most creatively disturbing way possible.
