Well, there was one fic—don't remember the name—where Derpy and Ditzy were separate characters (Discord was involved in their creation). Ditzy was intelligent but cynical, and looked down on everypony else. Derpy had a learning disability, but she was just smart enough to tell that most of Ponyville looked down on her or pitied her, and she hated this enough that she was willing to free Discord.

And then there was another, I think the name was The D Files, and it's a good thing I only found out about it after I started my fic because our premises are so similar. Derpy is one of Celestia's secret agents, protecting Equestria from threats that nopony else can even see. She's very cynical underneath her happy facade, and the moment that really took me out of the story was near the end, when she abandoned Spike to (apparent) death far too casually.

As for actually good fics that made Derpy do some unsympathetic stuff, check out The Sisters Doo. There's bad blood between her and her sister, and there's a wham chapter where the main reason she doesn't lose all audience sympathy is because Daring Do manages to do something even worse in the same chapter.

So, there was a shipping conversation. That was interesting, I personally don't care about whether Octavia and Vinyl Scratch are an item or not, you can get entertaining antagonistic interactions from them either way.

I may not ship but I wonder where the hell the basis for Twi Mac comes from. The only logical conclusion I could come up with is that she's the main character and he was the only viable male character for a while.

@Mousa on Twi/Mac. I'm sure that is the original basis for the ship, shipping the main character with The One Guy (who isn't a baby dragon). The whole "Run off with Twilight's doll" at the end of "Lesson Zero" added an extra reason for some reason.

Speaking of random Twi ships, does anyone remember the name of that yellow unicorn with a blue (I think) mane who some insisted on shipping with Twilight just because he was standing next to her in one scene? If there is such a thing as a forced ship, that's a prime example.
