I think alicorn was originally what a unicorns horn was made out of, but eventually the usage shifted to refer to a unicorn with wings. It isn't a MLP specific thing, the term has been around for awhile.

So, on a scale of 1 to 10 internets, just how pervasive has this show gotten? It's very promenant on a good deal of the sites I frequent, some of which (like this one) I would consider to be important crossroads of the internet. From my perspective it's everywhere, even getting a mention on cracked.com but is this just Fan Myopia?

It hasn't penetrated 40k online, or any of the other 40k fan sites that I can think of.

Maybe it's time to change that.

I have seen some 40k pony crossover stuff on memebase, but DO THAT!

Edit: If only we could somehow couple our fandom with the Touhou fandom, we'd be unstoppable.
